KIDS FISHING DERBY
SUNDAY JUNE 5 2016
GARNET VALLEY LAKE, SUMMERLAND
The oldest Fishing Derby in the Province was a great success.
Many thanks to the Freshwater Fisheries for increasing the odds of the children catching fish.
For many of them it was their first fish.
Many thanks to IGA Marketplace, Summerland. Hot dogs, juice, and lots of cold water was supplied by IGA and many prizes were awarded including 15 fishing rods, tackle boxes, reels, etc.
Approximately 150 people attended with 73 children registered. Even though we experienced record high temperatures, plus fishing from 11:00 - 2:00, a good number of fish were recorded with most released by the young fishermen.
Most fish caught by one was 7 - ranging in size from 9.1 to 32.1 cm.
A total of 43 fish were measured with the majority measuring between 22 - 29.6 cm.
Once again on behalf of the Summerland Sportsman Association and the families that attended this derby, a heartfelt thank you.
